Mikey the Greyhound

Mikey the Greyhound

Several weeks ago, myself and my recently rescued Greyhound, Mikey, had been attacked on a walk. Mikey was terribly injured and his lack of confidence on walks (and mine!) combined with the traumatic experience prompted me to seek out the right help for us. Sally's page seemed to jump out at me, she seemed so sure and calm. When I saw she had German shepherds I nearly didn't pick up the phone as we were attacked by a similar breed. After a few moments I realised this could only be a blessing, what better way to overcome our fears than by facing them. After speaking with Sally, and booking the appointment, I can safely say I instantly felt lighter. Help was on the way!

Sally was both a revelation and a hard education (I know you won't mind me saying that Sally!). Initially I thought Mikey only had a fear of other dogs stemming from his attack and that his neediness stemmed from that.

Within ten minutes of Sally's arrival, I had learned that the timid, obedient dog I believed I had, was in fact confident enough to disobey me; only choosing to listen when food was involved.

At first a few of Sally's observations and recommendations really did leave me open mouthed and thinking 'really?' - however, once explained and the solution put into practice, I could see that Sally was making perfect sense. Mikey was beginning to pave the way for himself to assert his dominance, and although he was not expressing aggression, in time he could surely go that way.

In one moment of frustration during some simple commands, Mikey began to frustratingly tug on the curtain because he was simply not getting his own way. That was an eye opener!

Having been there during what was a savage attack, my own confidence on walks had also hit a low ebb, but I know Sally will get me through that. We spent five intense hours together and something in her just inspires me to trust her.

Both myself and Mikey have a long road ahead, my bad habits and his fears combined would surely have led to a destructive force.

We will be walking that road with Sally. I have no doubts in her ability to really speak to the dogs, translating that for us owners. I really am looking forward to working with Sally so I can be the best leader I can be. And I hope that Mikey can feel secure and settled about his place in this life. I can't wait to have a happy and trusting dog.

Sally really is Greyt!
